Physical Therapy for Running Related Injuries
Seattle Based Practice
Meet Robin McGuire, DPT, OMT, FAAOMPT
I am a Seattle based Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) with advanced residency and fellowship training in orthopedic manual therapy and designation as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT), an internationally recognized standard of advanced clinical expertise. I specialize in the evaluation and treatment of running related injuries, working with runners of all levels from first time runners to competitive marathoners and ultra distance athletes.
My goal is to provide clear answers, an accurate diagnosis, and a structured rehabilitation plan so runners can recover fully and return to running with confidence.
My practice focuses on high level physical therapy for runners in Seattle who are dealing with pain, overuse injuries, or persistent symptoms that have not resolved with rest or previous physical therapy.
Expert Physical Therapy for Running Injuries
I believe the best outcomes come from understanding the whole runner rather than treating symptoms alone. My evaluation process is rooted in advanced orthopedic manual therapy training and includes a detailed tissue specific examination, review of training history, and assessment of movement patterns, biomechanics, and workload demands.
A core part of my approach is carefully ruling out differential diagnoses to accurately identify the primary source of pain and contributing factors. This allows us to move beyond symptom based care and create a clear, evidence based rehabilitation plan that supports both recovery and long term running health.
Running Injuries and Conditions I Treat
I specialize in treating common and complex running injuries, including:
• Runners knee or patellofemoral pain
• Achilles tendinopathy and Achilles pain
• Plantar fasciopathy and heel pain
• Shin splints and tibial stress injuries
• Bone stress injuries including stress reactions and stress fractures
• Hip pain and gluteal tendinopathy
• Low back pain related to running and training load
• IT band pain
• Hamstring strains
• Training load and overuse injuries
• Chronic or recurrent running related pain
I have a particular interest in persistent or unresolved injuries that have lingered or failed to improve with previous physical therapy. These cases often require advanced clinical reasoning, precise loading strategies, and carefully timed return to run progressions.
A Runner Centered Approach to Care
As a runner myself and an RRCA Level I Certified Running Coach, I understand the physical and psychological impact of injury. Running is often central to identity, stress management, and overall well being.
My role is to guide you through the rehabilitation process by identifying the root cause of injury, building the right progressions at the right time, and helping you return to running stronger, more confident, and fully prepared to reach your goals.
